Alternate version of
Lyrics
(Damn, I broke my pants!)
I have a stinger
I am a honeybee
I am a razor
please cut your wrists with me
You’re supercommon
you flaunt your pedigree
You’re clear as water
I’m already spinning in my grave
I am the subject of your documentary.
You have a question?
I am the third degree
I am authentic
I’m authenticity
I’m no such thing
I’m already spinning in my grave
I’m already spitting on your grave
Quotes
Sean: I don't know what to say about "Damn, I broke my pants!" other than that the phrase had been going around my friend group at the time (minted, or at least coined, by Eric Fredericksen). John Goodmanson said I should yell something as the band crashed in and that was the only(est) thing that came to mind, despite the fact that I'd had hours to think of something better. It's one of those things that gets a big laugh at the time then becomes sour milk by playback number three. I begged for it to be taken off, even though it was just a demo. I was denied. The line was cited as one of the reasons the label didn't like the song, even though I tried to explain it would never be on the finished version. (You know the expression "never show a fool unfinished work"? That's a good-ass expression.) The history of Harvey Danger is positively STREWN with examples of things like this, which all go under the heading "Funny in the Practice Space…" etc. One good thing about this version is that it still bears traces of the original conception of the song as having descended from the tradition of T. Rex (or at least Slade), which didn't quite make it to the album version. Still pretty good, though.25B
