Save it for later…
Two dozen other dirty lovers
Must be a sucker for it
Cry, cry but I don’t need my mother
Just hold my hand while I come… to a decision on itSooner or later
Your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later
Don’t run away and let me down
Sooner or later
You’ll hit the deck, you’ll get found out
Save it for later
Don’t run away and run away and let me down
Don’t run away, run away and let me down
Don’t run away, run awayBlack air and seven seas all rotten through
But what can you do?
I don’t know how I’m meant to act with all of you lot
Sometimes I don’t try
I justSooner or later
Your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later
Don’t run away and let me down
Sooner or later
You’ll hit the deck, you’ll get found out
Save it for later
Don’t run away and run away and let me down
Don’t run away, run away and let me down
Don’t run away, run awayTwo dozen other stupid reasons
Why we should suffer for this
Don’t bother trying to explain them
Just hold my hand while I come… to a decision on itSooner or later
Your legs give way and hit the ground
Save it for later
Don’t run away and let me down
Sooner or later
You’ll hit the deck, you’ll get found out
Save it for later
Don’t run away and run away and let me down
Don’t run away, run away and let me down
Don’t run away, run away, run away, run away, run away, run away
Save it for later…
Quotes
JJL: This is the version of “Save It For Later” that features Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready kicking out an “Evenflow”-style guitar solo in the middle. The first iteration of the solo had a backwards guitar solo that not everyone was sure about. Just for kicks, John called up Mike (Pearl Jam had been at John & Stu’s demoing songs for Yield, I believe, the previous week) and had him come in and play a couple passes. For fun, I asked him to bust out a classic “hot dog” solo. Here it is. (Eventually we went with a Rhodes piano solo in that section.)CDR
JJL: John (Goodmanson) had been doing some preproduction with Pearl Jam at John & Stu’s I think a few weeks before and we were struggling with what to do with the instrumental solo in the middle of “Save it for Later"—we’d tried the electric piano bit (which is what we eventually settled on) and some other stuff and weren’t loving it, and John says,
Hey, let’s ring up Mike and see if he’ll come inwhich he very generously did. He gave it a couple tries trying to fit the vibe of the song and at the end I think a few of us were likeyou need to just rip one off like in ‘Evenflow’and he obliged.25B
